Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select MasterCard Review

The Citi Platinum Select, otherwise known as the AAdvantage World MasterCard, is a middle tier travel rewards card offered through the CitiBank.

Although not considered to be the best travel card around, it is considered to be a solid one that is ideal for people who regularly travel through American Airlines.

Offering some pretty solid reward miles for users and the ability to take advantage of some good savings, this could be the ideal travel rewards card for you. What should you know about it?

Benefits of the AAdvantage World MasterCard

This credit card offers a huge number of benefits for its users. First of all, it gives you reward miles which can be used for airfare so long as you travel through American Airlines. You earn two miles for every $1.00 you spend and furthermore, you can earn 30,000 American Airline AAdvantage bonus miles by spending at least $1,000 on your card in the first three months of owning it. Plus, you an earn back 10% of your redeemed miles (up to 10,000 every year) which means you are in effect getting your travel benefits for a little cheaper. There is no blackout date on when you can travel and the miles never expire or cap. Furthermore, you can fly for 7,500 miles cheaper if you traveling to certain destinations which change quarterly. And finally, you get a $100 discount on American Airline flights every year you own the card wherein you spend a minimum of $30,000 in purchases and card renewal.

Beyond the miles, you also get some other nice travel perks. These include a 25% savings on eligible food and drink purchases on your flight, the first checked bag is free for you and up to four companions and you get priority boarding.

Furthermore, as a member of the Citi Platinum card holders, you also get built in services. These include extended warranties, purchase protections, travel assistance such as medical/legal referrals and translation services, rental insurance, luggage coverage and Price Rewind which helps you save money on your purchases. These are some nice things for any travel bug and shopaholic to enjoy.

Assuming you fly American Airlines and if you enjoy some flexibility in your travel destinations if you want to fly for cheap, then this could be the card for you. It’s relatively easy to gather up the miles since you effectively get double miles plus bonuses and you can earn back some of your miles when you redeem them. The tight restrictions on where you can redeem your rewards makes this card more of a niche style rewards card in that it is tied firmly to one airline, though you can gather up your double miles from purchasing just about anything.

Fees for Use

This is a charge card, not a typical credit card, which means that you are expected to pay the balance off in full by the due date which also means that you don’t have to worry about an APR (though if you are late in paying your balance off, you will have to worry about late fees). This card also has an annual fee of $95.00, though it’s waived in the first year of owning the card. Keep in mind that there is also a foreign transaction fee (3%) and there are no introductory offers. Ah well. As long as you keep on top of your card and you don’t get dug too deeply into debt while at the same time still using this card enough to get enough miles to make it worthwhile, this card could be the one for you.

This card may not be as universally useful as other travel rewards credit cards; however, if you are traveling with American Airlines on a regular basis anyway, then this could be a great way to save money on your travels and get some additional perks. If this card is the one to help you travel to the places you love, then apply for the Citi Platinum Select AAdvantage World MasterCard today and enjoy!
