We’ll take further notes on them as the need arises, so let’s get on with the Platinum and Platinum Travel Rewards! What should you know about these cards and the bank as a whole?

Simmons First Visa Platinum vs Platinum Travel Rewards

Both of these cards give you some similar perks; for example, they are both low APR cards, low penalty APR cards and offer things like travel insurance and car rental Loss/Damage Waivers. Where they differ is how low the APR is and whether or not there is a rewards system tagged to the card-the Travel Rewards has it, the Platinum does not. so let’s look at how they differ.

The Visa Platinum has one of the lowest APRs around, making it ideal for people who don’t want to be charged through the nose for using their card. It has a standard APR of less than 8% on purchases and balance transfers and no annual fee. The foreign transaction fee is also lower than normal at 2% and the APR for cash advances is even little at less than 12%! Furthermore, these are the rates you get no matter your credit worthiness; if you’re accepted into the program, you get the low rates-end of story.

The Visa Platinum travel rewards card is also a low APR card with a standard APR of less than 10% on purchases and balance transfers, less than 14% on cash advances and no annual fee. The fact that there is no introductory rate is pretty well irrelevant when you already get a low rate anyway!

So much for the Visa Platinum-it’s simply a very low APR card, making it perfect for people with a great credit rating who don’t need anything too fussy. So what about the Visa Platinum Travel Rewards? It too is a low APR card, but you also get a rewards program layered on top of it! It’s not the most exciting system-you basically get 1 point/$1.00 spent which can then be redeemed for any tickets on US based airlines. You can also spend for vacation packages, cruises, car rentals, gift cards for dining and hotel stays.

The points aren’t precisely worth a bundle; you have to have at least 10,000 points to get a $100.00 discount on airfare and the free tickets don’t start until 25,000 but it’s better than nothing and when combined with the low fees, it becomes a fairly neat card.

Trading Benefits for Low Fees

The common thread of all of the cards of the Simmons First bank is their ability to give low rates; even the Gold and Classic have APRs under 11% and if you are accepted, you get that rate, no fuss. But you do have to trade something for it: other benefits.

The only card with a rewards system is the travel rewards platinum and it’s about on par with the average grocery store card. You get things like waivers and travel insurance, but that’s about it. You don’t get things like introductory APRs or other perks and benefits

But you also get the benefits no annual fee and low rates, even low penalty rates that don’t stick to you forever.

So really, it will be a matter of choosing which is more important to you: rewards and benefits or low APRs and a lack of fees. It’s a fine balancing act and certainly the Simmons First Bank doesn’t make it easy by not only offering low APRs, but super low.

The Simmons First Visa Platinum and Visa Platinum Rewards cards aren’t fancy, but if you’re looking for a card that won’t charge you through the nose and will even give you something of a rewards program, these might be the ones for you. You can apply for any of the Simmons First Visa credit cards here and enjoy!
